Happy and Hitched | Wedding of Tanya and Raphael

When we saw Tanya Mei Angerer and Raphael Bouzy’s wedding photographs, we wished we could be there too. There was no typical white wedding gown, the bridal bouquet was enticingly unique and really, why toss petals when you can use pretty flower heads?

“I was adamant about having someone playing the double bass, and we managed to get one.” The bride’s musical request was fulfilled as a live band entertained the crowd through the night. The joy of having the people they love at one huge party doesn’t end as we see their day’s celebrations progress into the night’s merriment!

“We met through work in 2007 in Hong Kong. It was actually rather distracting as we kept sneaking peeks at each other across the office,” Tanya and Raphael were transferred from their London offices to work in Hong Kong but didn’t notice each other until much later.

They had taken a year off to travel around Africa and South American on a budget but on their anniversary, Raphael had booked themselves into a lush hotel. That could mean one thing and Tanya was spot on about her hunches! That was where her man proposed.

Tanya’s wedding gown was a refreshing sight, an unconventional bridal delight! “I picked a green dress by Roland Mouret,” she begins. “I didn’t want to settle for the obligatory white, and green’s my favourite colour so that’s what I ended up wearing.” The pairing of her beautiful bridal dress and Raphael’s relaxed, pastel blue suit that was accompanied with a simple boutonniere of greens, couldn’t looked any better!

Tanya and Raphael’s quick and candid wedding notes:

Favourite planning task…
“I liked picking the caterer, because we got to sample loads of different food!”

On dividing the tasks…
“We didn’t split the tasks definitively when we started planning. It was more a case of whoever could take on the job when the time came. A lot of the big decisions such as band and food, we did together though. Thankfully also, we had a lot of help from friends and family.”

About managing expectations…
“It was more a case of calming each other’s nerves.”

They overcame unexpected mishaps by…
“Sheer ignorance. We only discovered that we didn’t have a microphone for the wedding about an hour before, but because Raphael and I were holed up, getting ready, our family had to deal with it and as always, managed to cobble together a solution.”

Secret to remembering details…
“Keep it simple.”

If I could…
“I would have gotten the band to play for much longer because everyone was in the mood to dance.”

During a wedding, you…
“Don’t sweat the small stuff.”
