A Joyful Noise | Wedding of Jennifer and Rio

When you think of Hong Kong, you’re reminded of the sights, food, shopping and fun! But what’s an amazing holiday if you’re not there with your true love? Jennifer and Rio, together with the team at d’ZIGN for you were in Hong Kong and Macau for a pre-wedding shoot that was too cute and sweet! “We chose Hong Kong because we enjoy the idea of a overseas photo shoot.” They add. This couple seemed naturally playful together, an aspect that complemented their pictures really well; especially since they were their way to Disneyland too!

“We were looking forward especially to our Hong Kong trip since it’s going to be overseas photo shoot with different backgrounds, mostly captured within the crowds. Our photos are a mix of our childlike personalities as well as loving one another as what we are. We especially love pictures that were captured amid the crowd. It shows that love exists and it transcends boundaries of time, culture and people. Some words to describe the whole photo shoot: vintage, colorful, playful, classic, grand, futuristic, fashionable, romantic, graphical.”

Jennifer and Rio met in September 2008 at a church rehearsal for the Indonesian community. “He kept smiling all the time; he's such a happy guy.” Jennifer recalls meeting Rio at church. Perhaps it was destined for Jennifer, as the coordinator of the event, to approach Rio first because he had always prayed for something similar to happen. “As a Christian, I always believed the Word where it says, “ask and you shall receive”. So I listed down the criteria and I prayed for this requirement – that lady has to be the first to introduce herself to me!”

A month before the proposal, Rio had engaged the help of 3 of his friends whom Jennifer was not familiar with. They had important roles to play – a magician, flower boy and photographer.

It all happened on Rio’s 25th birthday dinner at KUDETA, Marina Bay Sands. “I felt that something was different because he was wearing new suit.” Jennifer remembers clearly. “I randomly asked where's the ring and he feigned ignorance and went ‘what ring!’”

But Rio had it all planned, “The magician friend of mine was to appear while we were seated alfresco at Sky 57. He would pretend to be part of the venue’s entertainment and for his last magic trick he would tell me that whatever I had wished for, it would come to pass. He would put a card on my palm and when he lifted it up, the ring would appear! The flower boy would then come forward with the cameraman and I’ll be on my knees!”

He knelt down and proposed with 99 red roses and the prettiest diamond ring ever!” Jennifer tells us. “He's good at choosing the ring!”

“We were looking forward to the honeymoon! Let’s get this over with!” isn’t the first thought that comes into mind on your wedding day but for this couple it was and it’s all in the name of laughter!

And as the wedding planning carries on, Jennifer and Rio shares with us the best/worst things about it:

Best – “All activities that we did! Both of us exchanged thoughts and ideas that we agreed on, and that led to our successful wedding day.”

Worst – “To plan for a wedding, and attend another wedding that we didn’t plan! Well, we did have 2 weddings. One in Singapore, which was planned by us and another in Indonesia, which was planned by Rio’s family. However, we were thankful to our parents and siblings that they helped us to plan and supported us!”

Working together and having clear communication is essential and that’s what Jennifer and Rio did while planning their wedding together:

“Both of us agree to prioritize which is more important. We set up tentative dates and request our helper to save the dates prior to the meeting normally a month in advance so that everyone will be able to make it.”

There’s nothing they would want to change about their wedding day simply because, and as we quote, “It is not a perfect wedding, but the imperfection created for us the atmosphere that we both preferred.”
