Hi,
I am looking for a videgrapher, and wondering what is a reasonable price to pay for a videography package and what is typically provided in a videography package?
Can you advise?
Charlotte

Hi charlotte
The main items that most videography companies provide are basically the raw footage and video highlights. Different companies package their video highlights using different terms such as MTV, montage, etc. The short video highlights that is presented during the wedding dinner (showing the fetching of bride, tea ceremony that was held earlier in the day)is generally known as the express highlights.
Videography prices is very much dependent on the quality of the end product. A good video should cost about a thousand plus to 3k and above. I would advise that you meet up with a few videographers to have a feel of their video works and you'll find out how nice an actual day video can be :)
Happy hunting. Cheers. Damon

Hi,
I have a handycam and I will record my sister's wedding by myself. It consists of church wedding, tea ceremony, and wedding reception.
Do you have any tips for such things?
For the church wedding as an example, where should I put my handycam such that it won't disturb the guests and the whole ceremony? If I just put it behind the bride and groom, then I won't be able to see their face in the video. I'm also afraid if I put only near my seats, and I need to walk around to have their video taken, it might be shakey. Now I'm confused. Really appreciate your help.
For the tea ceremony will be easier, just put in angle such that I can see them.
The wedding reception is a buffet style where the bride and groom and their parents will sit on the stage, and all guest will come to shake their hands to congratulate them before they eat. Where should I put my handycam?
Is there any recommended books that I can borrow from Singapore Library to help me take a good video?
Really appreciate your help :)

Hi groovy2009
It'll be a fun and challenging job :)
a. The most important thing to remember besides recording when using a handycam is, in my opinion, to maintain good stability. I assume you'll be using a tripod.
b. At the church, there are a few locations you can place the handycam. As you will be seated together with your family in the front row, the most convenient place would be placing the handycam right in front of you, diagonally facing the bridegroom or the bride. Although it wont be as near to the couple as you may want, you can make use of the zoom function, and you will be ready to make any adjustment as and when necessary without having to move around.
c. You can also place the handycam in the aisle between the front row seats facing the couple. This can be done after their march-in and remember to clear the way before they march out.
d. At the wedding reception, you are actually free to place it anywhere and change location as and when you want a different angle. Placing it diagonally facing the couple would be less of an obstruction to the guests.
e. There are definitely books on basic video techniques that are available in the library. You can pick up some useful tips in there. I cant really recommend as I have not been visiting the library for ages ;)
Also, I would advise that you try to do some planning and familiarization during the church rehearsal to make your job more enjoyable on the wedding day.
Good luck and have fun!
Damon

Hi groovy
Damon has some very good tips on camera placements. I guess I can add to his advice with a few following pointers as well:
- Ask the pastor what places are OK to shoot from. Some are more lenient and will actually allow you to shoot from over their shoulder. I don't recommend leaving the camera there for the duration of the service though, as all the pictures will turn up with a tripod and camera in the background! Also remember that the couple may change positions during the ceremony. At some point they may take their seats, face each other, or change places with each other. It all depends on the customs. Take note of these things when attending the rehearsal. Most videographers choose to stay mobile, and capture many angles during the ceremony, so you might want to consider changing your camera angle a few times to best capture the moments.
- Vary your shot sizes when you're shooting hand-held. It gives better coverage. Some shot sizes to try: a) Wide shots - they establish the location, number of people present, ambiance b) 2-people or 3-people shots - allows you to show people interacting with each other c) Close-ups - for detail shots (objects) or more intimate moments (people)
- Interview people - ask them for their well-wishes for the couple, or their thoughts on the wedding. You can also ask the couple or the entourage occasionally what is happening or how they are feeling. It may seem obvious at the time, but it give context to viewers who were not at the wedding.
- Since you are the bride's sister, it may be that you are required to stop shooting while you attend to certain things. Feel free to assign the camera to someone else to continue shooting. This way you are not torn between two roles. Also, it would be nice to have appear yourself in the video for a bit!
- Try not to shoot with your subject in front of a big window or glass door - this usually results in a silhouetted image
- Keep your elbows close to your body as you handle your camera. This gives you better stability and lessens the chance of people accidentally jostling you.
- Last of all, have fun! Its a challenging responsibility, but a very rewarding one. Ultimately, you are creating memories! Also, people react better if the camera handler is smiling and looking involved. : ) All the best!

Hi All,
My fiance thinks we might not need a videographer. Is it necessary to get a videographer or hiring a good photographer will do?
Should I or should I not?

Hi Hsinmei,
Personally I think photography captures the specific moment in time and videography relive the wedding day in motion.
A good photographer is very important. I would say, if you have the budget for it, go for a videographer as well. You really see and feel different things.
If you are not sure, I think you can go and visit a few videographers and see their work before deciding.
I'll be starting to hunt for 1 after CNY. |

Hi Everyone,
My name is Susan and recently my friend had a wedding reception. During her reception, she showed a video montage and it was beautifully done. However, I am wondering whether videographers normally do their own music edit for the wedding footage?
My friend recommended a company called Express in Music (www.expressinmusic.com)that not only provide live musicians (it was a three piece band performing during the reception and it set the ambience beautifully) for the event but also a personalized song for the wedding.
This personalized song was performed during one of the segments of the wedding and it was sung by the groom! It was wonderful since it captured the quirky and witty characters of both the bride and groom. Since my wedding is nearing,I am wondering if there's any videographers that offers the same services for the wedding video? Thanks !
