Flowers can naturally perfume your wedding venue and heighten the romance of the occasion with Mother Nature’s very own palette of colours. To landscape a breathtaking wedding reception, hiring the right florist is essential to help bring your vision of that ‘perfect’ wedding into full bloom. Here are some guidelines to determine the right florist for your wedding.

It is indeed a leap of faith placing the backdrop for your wedding in the hands of someone else. On the other hand, it is a pulse-racing moment to finally see the wedding ‘stage’ in its full glory. How do you net the right florist to put together the wedding of your dreams?

PORTFOLIO
Ask to view photos of weddings the florist has been engaged in or request to witness their upcoming wedding event. This way you will have a good idea of their competency and style, and whether it works for you. This is especially important if you are planning for an unconventional wedding.

SCHEDULING
Check with the florists on their schedule and availability. Be assured that they have not over-stretched their commitments, be it for weddings or other events, for the days leading up to your wedding. If you choose to have your wedding during the off-peak season, the florist is likely to be more relaxed and able to spend more time and efforts on your wedding.

RAPPORT
Express your visions freely. If you feel comfortable doing that during your interview or visit to the florist, and you feel confident that you can count on them, shortlist them as potentials.

PREFERENCES
Meet up with potential florists to discuss your general likes and dislikes. The wedding venue and the time should be confirmed at this stage. Whenever possible, bring along lists, pictures, or samples showing your theme, fabric designs, location, etc. These will allow them to understand you better, visualise your needs and work with your personality.

COMPROMISE
Though you may have numerous ideas, not everything can be incorporated all at once. Since your florist probably has more experience, hear her out, and work with the suggestions to reach a compromise.

BUDGET
Specify your budget so that the florist knows what she has to work with and can suggest the best course of action. Costs for add-ons to meet possible future requirements (not hidden costs!) should be spelt out wherever possible, as this will help avoid any surprises.
