Tips for Choosing a Suit

A bride may take ‘forever’ to try on as many gowns as possible to find one suitable one. For the groom, it is no different. Some pointers here may be of assistance.

WEDDING THEME
Consider whether you are having a formal or informal wedding. Factors like the time of day, number of guests and menu will help you to decide which attire is suitable.

SUIT YOUR BODY SHAPE
Double-breasted jackets, cummerbunds and light-coloured jackets add bulk while pinstripe suits, vests and dark colours create a slimmer frame. Straining buttons, tight collars and ill-fitting pants are a definite negative, making customised suits an attractive option.

MIND YOUR HEIGHT
Get the best possible fit and avoid tailcoats if you are not tall enough. Do check that the sleeves and pant legs are long enough if you are really tall.

COMPLEMENT YOUR BRIDE’S GOWN
Ask your bride for her colour and style input to match the wedding theme. It will also be helpful to bring along fabric samples from her gown.

BALANCE YOUR NEEDS AND BUDGET
Shop around and do your research to make sure you get the best fit at the right price. Recommendations from your family and friends would be a good way to start. And remember, those recommendations are to help you make a start; you don’t have to apply them all.
