Putting Your Best Feet Forward

“Hi. I'm not here but my shoes are, so leave them a message.” If this is what you have on your voice message recording, then picking your wedding shoes should be the least of your worries! But for the uninitiated, there are a couple of pointers to consider while picking your Cinderella pumps!

The rule of the thumb when it comes to picking shoes is to complement your bridal frock! When shopping for shoes, it’s recommended that you have a fabric swatch of your gown or a bit of the lace or pattern with you. Having your shoes picked and bringing it to all your gown fitting sessions is important so the hem can be adjusted accordingly.

As the centre of attention, you would probably be required to literally, be on your toes for the entire day and you’d certainly want to get a hang of it; especially if you are going for sky-high stilettos. Wear your shoes as often as possible at home to break them in, improve your balance, and locate the blister zones. Use a blister stick or gel protector on your wedding day just to be sure! A wince on your face in every wedding picture is certainly not the look most brides go for!

One of the practical concerns that seldom occur to the fashionably-inclined bride is the location which the ceremony or reception is held. If you are planning an outdoor wedding, keep in mind that delicate cream silk will probably get muddy or streaked with grass stains and stiletto heels would probably sink straight into the turf! Treat brand new shoes with a smooth-sole with sandpaper from hardware stores or go for a walk on some bitumen.

Ever dreamt of wearing  that over-the-top crystal encrusted platform heel or the stunning showcase-piece of art inspired by feathers? Accessories are a great way to up the personality and theatrical flair in outfits without looking too crazy. Why not take this chance to splurge on something you would typically be too shy to wear?
